I spent a couple of days paddling the Suwannee River between the I75 overpass just east of White Springs, Florida, to the Spirit of the Suwannee River Music Park just north of Live Oak. This upper part of the river is beautiful, with limestone outcroppings, springs, brooks and point bar beaches. Though it was President's Day weekend, I saw only a couple of other people. The weather was beautiful as I camped on the edge of the river. Evening is a great time outdoors because the sounds seem to increase in volume. I heard coyotes howling on the other side of the river along with Sturgeon (large fish) jumping along the river. A very relaxing couple of days. I paddle a Tarpon 140 Wilderness Systems kayak.

Looks like a nice trip. I'm thinking of going next month. What was the weather like on your trip? Was the water temperature okay?

Most of the gear is for backpacking and fit inside the 140 wrapped inside small dry bags. I use a packing diagram (based on prior experience). The chair, cooler and a few items in a dry bag went in the outside stern well. The boat has a lot of cargo capability and I would definitely buy another one.

How was it carrying all that gear for your trip on the 140? I'm thinking about getting one for trips like that and was wondering if you had any suggestions.
