Here a ~.22 uF capacitor was put in series with a pole mount transformer to increase the peak voltage. This in turn makes the power arc pull further. the transformer is putting out around 7200V at an estimated .83A.

  • What kind of monster capacitor did you use that can stand that sort of voltage/current?!

  • It's an old PFC cap. It's got 3 separate .22uF capacitors in it, and it was supposed to be on a 14.4kV line. Given that, the Bil rating of the cap is ~200kV. It truly is a monster!!! these are actually not too hard to find, a local electronics guru set me up with mine.

  • so its running off of 240v at 30A right?

  • Actually to achieve 7200V i ran the full low voltage secondary at 120V ~50A. Also, the calculated resonant capacitance for this power source is ~.25 uF so this capacitance is near optimal. At 14.4kV same power, the resonant cap would be ~.125uF.

  • why did you run this at such low power,

  • This transformer is designed to be powered from a 14.4kV source, when running it backward the super low impedance LV winding will literally short the 240/120V supply. The LV winding is estimated to only be 2-3 ohms at 60 Hz!!

I added an inductor to raise the impedance by 10-20 ohms. When this happens the amount of power the 240V winding can draw drops dramatically. Also note that I was running 120V through the 240V winding. In later videos I ran the pig at full 240V and I was reaching 15-20kW.

  • @triggerhappy77707

My dad makes trips down to the Florida area every once and a while could he pick it up? how much would you sell it for?

  • @ubuntupokemoninc Well it can't be shipped, so i don't think it'd be practical for you to buy it. BTW i am Arcstarter on 4hv.org if you didn't know.

  • @triggerhappy77707

sure i'll buy yours how much?

  • how much did that cap cost, and i can tell by the sound and when the arc goes out you not quite resonant yet.

  • Buy mine :)

    50kw good enough for ya?

  • so basically u added a ballast
