edit: I now got a "new" old laptop, Compaq armada M700 pentiumIII 500mhz, updated to 480mb ram, a 1024x768 TFT LCD, 2 batteries, 8mb video card(supports D3D!!!!), good keyboard, etc. Will post a video some day.

By the way the laptop in this vid is dead now, the screen backlight cable failed and I couldn't be bothered to fix it, I love my new armada M700

Old laptop description:
I picked up and old Compaq Presario 1255 from a dude who didnt need it.

The hardware isn't very good, but after a few modifications and upgrades I can make it more useful than my iPaq or even my phone...

  • What software did you have on that machine? (Or if you don't remember, do you at least know what was changing the background?)

  • @alonsog1997 not really a background it's a visualizer built-in to winamp called "Advanced Visualisation Studio" (AVS)

  • how did you make the memory go up that high my Toshiba 1750 only goes 256mb and its newer then then yours no affiance. thank you!

  • every laptop model has different memory capabilities, the compaq armada had 2 ram slots plus 64mb built in, the laptop in my video only has one ram slot plus 32mb built in.

  • Next time just turn off the lights altogether.

  • @elitex778 No OS will boot on it no more, and I don't want to waste any more $ on the machine. However, I might try this stuff on a PIII desktop when I find the motherboard.

  • @elitex778 The computer doesn't work anymore. Sorry! (hard drive error, maybe on sector 1?)

  • dude i hawe the same loptop somewere mouling around lol:D

  • why?

  • @alonsog1997 Thank you, 500 charecter limit. You've made things much better. Anyways, i could not put in anything else because of that limit.

    OS: MicroXP 0.82

    DVD Decoder: Built into IGP

    Web Browser: Google Chrome

  • @sersoft2 I can watch youtube on my PIII laptop. VLC: does not update video signal Flash: go to 240p, and it plays ok at 10-15fps HTML5: untested Anything less resource intensive, let me know. My laptop is a: Intel Pentium III 650E MHz Mobile CPU Trident CyberBlade i1 Integrated Graphics borrowing 8MB RAM 192MB RAM (184MB available to windows) Compaq Presario 1600-XL142 (looks suspicious of having a diffferent model system board) 5.5GB Failing Hard Drive DVD-ROM (might ubgrade to dvd burner)
  • @alonsog1997 unfortunately, flash player wasn't designed for video playback, so it needs at least a 1.5ghz CPU or fast video card acceleration. To play youtube or any flash videos you would have to manually rip the video file to HDD and use something else than flash player to play it, for example, download VLC, adblock and firefox, open a youtube video page, pause the video, rightclick, stop download, click on APB icon and "show blockable items" then type videoplayback in the adblock search bar.
