  • An excellent performance! This is one of my favourite scenes and you have captured it so well. I would love to see your second act duet if you have the time to add it.

  • I have just uploaded it, so should be available very soon!

  • Brava, diva! No audience when this was filmed? They didn't clap!

  • This was the dress rehearsal, so unfortunately there was no audience!

  • Also - there seems to be some chatter in the background of the video. It's rather unfortunate as it distracted me somewhat from your voice.

  • Yes, I don't know why that happened. I followed the same procedure as I usually do, so I suspect it may have been something to do with the DVD it was taken from.

  • I just came back to this video that was my favourite version to see how it holds up after seeing the Seattle G&S production. It is still my favourite. Sharon has captured the madness perfectly without overdoing it. I despise the exaggerated madness of many performances. This truly captures the character and remains believable. The best G&S requires all characters to believe and accept the strange worlds that Gilbert creates.

  • @erictoastpoint Yes, the audience is conspicuous by its absence - especially after the line "Strange... They told me she was beautiful", which is probably my favourite line of dialogue in any G&S. I've seen and been involved in quite a few Ruddigores, and if that line doesn't get an enormous laugh, something's seriously wrong with your audience!

  • @HarryHayfield I'm not an expert dialectician and grammarian, but I believe Rose is right with "whom" (as Meg realises this when challenged).

  • I suppose I would call ,yself a lapsed soprano! I still have the range, but I have to re-train my voice if I've been singing mezzo for a while. I don't really have a preference, but if there's a nice meaty role like Mad Margaret, I'd rather play that than, say, Yum-Yum or Mabel.
