The only time you can really see how straight the bow is is when the bridge is perfectly straight from your viewpoint. So when the bridge appears as a straight line instead of a rectangle, that's when you should examine the straightness of the bow. You will find that it is actually quite straight!

My teacher has actually been talking to me about this subject a lot lately. On the down bow, your bow hand should be slightly further away from you, making the bow ever so slightly crooked. On the up bow, it is slightly closer to you, making the bow slightly crooked the other direction.

This is sometimes exaggerated at the very ends of the bow.

However, I stress the word slightly. When the bow looks very crooked, it is because you are viewing it from an angle.
