This is a response to janiecarrasco and any one else wanting to know how to export Kino projects for YouTube. I hope it helps! The last tutorial, I kept things in DV format (AVI) for Cinelerra, but if Kino is the end of the road for you (or if you want to use it to import and convert), these options should get you something that will play very nicely with YouTube.

Also, here's a script to convert existing video files into a DVD MPEG format which you can also upload. Just open up a terminal, go to the directory with the video, and run the following (you will need mencoder). Keep in mind to set the aspect ratio to 4:3 if you aren't using 16:9 as in my example:

mencoder -oac lavc -ovc lavc -of mpeg -mpegopts format=dvd -vf scale=720:480,harddup -srate 48000 -af lavcresample=48000 -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg2video:vrc_buf_size=1835:vrc_maxrate=9800:vbitrate=5000:keyint=18:aspect=16/9:acodec=ac3:abitrate=192 -ofps 30000/1001 -o new_video.mpg old_video.whatever

  • hey, vaasnaad! how can I get h.264 option in export>other?

i don't have it in the list.

    cheers

  • @iharhajster Oh, man, I'm so sorry for taking so long! Import to DV with Kino then use WinFF for easy drag and drop to other formats.

  • One thing. How do I use Kino to make good quality, low size videos. All the options I tried usually end up with the file registering as '0bytes' in the explorer program

  • @airconguy1 Best suggestion for you actually is don't use Kino... Render normally from there and then get WinFF - it's a GUI for FFMPEG. You can tweak it pretty much any way you want from there and render out a smaller file.

  • when I use kino it keeps crashing could you tell me why?

  • I'll give it a go. What distro and version are you running, what video card, how much RAM and do you get specific error messages on termination if you start it from a terminal (Just open up and type "kino" and you're good to go).

  • Glad I was able to help! Can't wait to see the vids!

  • Thanks a lot for this! Answered all my questions and got me exporting. Thanks again for taking the time to make this.

  • I use Kino to import all my video to my computer, but I use Cinelerra for all the editing. :-)

  • Do you use Kino to do all your YouTube Videos?
