The US is fine with religious fondamentalism, look at Saudi Arabia. Plus, unquestioning religous zombies are easy to manipulate, the US uses them as minions and tools to fight the soviet in the balkans, afghanistan and former republics.
And islamic fruitcakes are just what they want to replace the cold war as a phantom enemy to justify police state and war profiteering
