@liquidwitch95 It is more that mary is the dark or sad version of Sara I ment that Mary wasen't loved by here parents she arrive in a really sad place because here parents already died when Sara was loved and well educated she arrive in a beautifull place were she is (temporarily) well treated and here father is not dead at first. But of course litlle princess is sad but at the end, at least in the movie, she discover here father is not dead and she begin here life like it was before.

you really think its darker? the night stuff in the house and the fire dance is a bit creepy but the black baloon and climbing out of the window bit in little princess used to scare me more!

Mine too but I just realized that the two stories are so similar, young brittish girl living in India send back to a foreign country after a tragedy and finally left without parents, even if the secret garden still darker. *but it still my favourite
