"I could sell the video if I wanted to but I'm hoping it'll fade into obscurity...I really hate it. It's only good for about a dozen minutes of right hand 3-finger technique. The rest of it ended up being a problem because the "producer" didn't like the concepts I was struggling to get across so I ended up wasting my best explanations off camera. Also, for some strange reason, the president of REH (the original company) decided to institute a "no-rewind" rule. .....In a video shoot there are constant interruptions....changing camera angles, working with audio, changing tapes, changing batteries. After everyone of these interruptions, I'd look around and go "OK, where was I?". Then everyone would just guess... so it ended up being extremely difficult to follow through with any ideas. Also, because of technical problems with the cheapo studio they were using, it took 12 hours to record 2 1/2 tunes and a few audio examples. Then, it was time to teach....I could go on. But, believe me, it sucks and if you can find a pirated bootleg...be my guest. Meanwhile, I'll stick to doing books."

  • nice piece of wood in between the picks,so it will make it easyer for his right hand to solo

why he does't talk about it?

  • Gary you make my head spin...

  • OMG LOL the drummer is hilarious

  • I don't get what Gary's so self-conscious about?? Really...it's not that big a deal. If I were a bassist, it's totally clear what he's teaching at the beginning. Also, I prefer his tone with the finished basses on these videos. There's a clarity and tightness that his natural wood basses don't have. I like all wood for guitar, because it tames the shrill metal highs......but on a bass?? Especially if you're playing fast fusion.

oh well. Love the guy anyways.

  • straight up skillz

  • @cegb44o: He discusses the development of the ramp on other videos. Type in Gary Willis Signature Bass into the search engine. I think that's the title that brings up he two-part series in which he discusses all aspects of the bass's design.

  • @hesingshesobs: That's Kirk Covington, an old friend of Gary's from Texas, who he brought into Tribal Tech and who served in the drum chair longest: '91 until they disbanded in '00. Check out some of his work on YouTube by typing his name into the search engine.

  • Man, this technique on bass is very expansive

  • I wish I had picked up a few sets of the "Tri-Wing" tuner-heads that developed from the circular ones seen here, and are now standard on his signature Ibanez. Gary used to sell them from his site, but I'm guessing his deal w/ Ibanez made that a no-go. I'd love to equip my Spectors with them.

  • the drum beat sounds amazing ,i love that drumming
