@GOODFELLAS74 Seriously? Read up on Reed's appearance on the Tonight Show in 1975.

Letterman is a twat, Olly is more funny and intelligent than he could ever dream of being.
RIP ol' chap.

Kellygreen5555 you are a prick! Letterman clearly knew he was no match for Ollie and was shitting himself all through the interview. That aside despite his reputation for being a so called dangerous guest Oliver Reed was not only one of the greatest actors Everett to grace the screen he was also an extremely intelligent, honest and down to earth person with a great sense of humour and love of life. He had a charisma few could match and will always be a legend!
-
Because Carson was a legend and Leno was too busy stealing Letterman's job!
-
@gim10003 regarding the pattern. I totally agree. This is his technique, and if you want to see awkward and hostile watch the show when Rodney Dangerfield was guest. Dismissive and cavalier toward a fellow comedian that was way funnier than this cheating Hack.
Where is Guernsey he asked?
-
O common! Have you seen Oliver Reed at his best? He is most definitely drunk out of his mind here!
-
@harveydents, I think I see a pattern in how he deals with guests who break with "decorum" by being overtly weird or hostile. Maybe he takes it as disrespect or something, but his reaction seems to be to push back, antogonize and ridicule. He's done it with difficult guests from Glover to Madonna.

Letterman, you shmuck; your in the presence of a legend.
-
@alecs1976 I wish someone would post the clip.
I also wish I could find the clip of Lily Tomlin walking off the Dick Cavett Show (in 1972) after the sexist, idiot actor Chad Everett referred to his wife as "my property."
Can you imagine booking those two turds - Oliver Reed and Chad Everett - on the same show?!
-
I've read that it was not just a glass of water but a whole champagne bucket of ice and water that winters dumped on reed. I'd really like to see a clip of that episode!
Why is it that Letterman always seems to have this uncomfortable interviews from time to time? never happened to Carson or Leno
