Brenda & Don paddle to Cayo Costa from the Pineland historical marker. At Cayo Costa, we paddle through what was once a mangrove tunnel, prior to Hurricane Charley. There are pictures of the beach, and some of the native plants that occupy the desert-like dunes.

  • Cayo Costa is a beautiful place, thank you for sharing!

  • Thanks, Cayomama! Judging by your name, you probably recognized the pics where we were passing through what was formerly a beautiful mangrove tunnel in Murdock Bay, just SW of Cabbage Key. Charley did a number on it, but as you say, it is still a beautiful place. I plan to upload slide shows from future kayak trips in the area, so check back on my videos.

  • thanks for that.

i too spent a month there doing exactly the same thing also in a wooden boat, but canoe. i put my screen tent over the picknick table and hung sheets for privacy.the beach was only 200 feet away, where i kept a sunwind screen.

also i found a knucklehead motor boat stuck in the channel to the legoon.

  • I look forward to it!
