Punk Out
I used to count my poems like
coin collectors would take inventory
of their ancient pieces of metal, like black maids used to
polish silver for big, fancy tables down south.
A lot of things seem
like slavery to me now.
You cannot polish poetry
or shine verse to fit
someone's asking price.
Poetry will always rebel.
To Make Noise
I pushed the vase.
I'm not sure why.
Maybe I was just sick
of not being allowed
to be angry.
Maybe I just needed
to make some noise before
they forgot me again.
And when the sound waves
of the shattering finally reached my
bleeding eardrums I froze.
don'tbreak. don'tbreak.
But it broke. Of course, it had to.
You can read excerpts from your short stories too/ Yes, poetry will always rebel.

really? always thought reading excerpts would be long winded... ironic, considering I ramble all the time...
