  • While I can't argue with how awesome this is, I must ask:

    1. Did you make it yourself?

    2. Do you know if it's actually based on an old game?

  • I made this game board myself and came up with the rules. It was originally designed to be incorporated into my fantasy novels. Later this year ( November I believe ) the game will finally be published.

It's based on an ancient Irish game known as Brandubh- which is mentioned in the sagas.

This version has been under copyright for nearly twenty years now but I'm happy for you to make your own board and play with my rules as long as you don't sell any of the boards you make. Enjoy.

    Caiseal

  • it's a good game

  • Is this game balanced? I have tried numerous variations of Fidchell that I have read up on and most of them are skewed heavily in favour of one side or the other. Most of these had 9 defenders and 16 attackers though and were usually in favour of the attacker, I also tried 5 vs 8 similar to Brandubh but that seemed to easy for the king but I didn't consider 5 vs 12. Have you played it enough times to feel it's balanced? Looks like it would favour the attackers, despite they lost both those games

  • It's a shame no shops sell Caiseal Mor's books any more. They were bestsellers once but now they're out of print.

  • Is Fidchell the same game as Brandubh?

  • Hmm. I heard mention of CDs you'd made in the Well of Yearning, never thought to look them up until I started to wonder what Brandubh actually was... I'm just ponderous as to how a massive WORM is going to fiddle around with little pieces... Anyway. felt like commenting to compliment your folk...ing skills, and also point out that I think Caoimhin is possibly the sweetest little character ever. :P Good luck with life, sir.

  • I love this music and the board...it's seems cool and might have fun with!

  • that board is beautiful!

i have a Brandubh board that was made and given to me at Yule. only just established how to play it :p
