... sills is simply miraculous here, and domingo just blew me away... born to sing donizetti (as well)... what he does with the recitativi is almost callas like in terms of phrasing and dramatic accent. also kuddos to rudel, always responsive to his singers and yet clearly in command of the game. this is what opera is all about. I wonder if people in that auditorium were fully conscious of how incredibly privileged they were... they probably did, to judge from those happy roars!

This is my favorite performance of Roberto Devereux with Beverly Sills as Queen Elizabeth - Domingo is her ideal partner. Sills is at her peak here!!!!
