In his own words: Maj. Mark Campbell on Injured veterans needing more support

"I'd have been better off dead, maybe. My kids don't think so, but I don't know." Major Mark Campbell is a frustrated soldier. He came back from Afghanistan without any legs and suffering several other effects of an ambush attack. Now Campbell is fighting a new battle, for better care for soldiers with long-term disabilities.

What the gov't might be failing to realize is that not only is this a slap in the face to those of whom have given their lives for us BUT it will deter future soldiers from wanting to join the forces based on these conditions. What pisses me off the most is that these decisions are coming from people who sit in their nice comfortable office will their full salary and their full benefits and their only risk is stubbing their toe on the desk. He earned that money, he paid his dues...give it!

I carried this guy on a stretcher out of Sai Choy the day he lost his legs. Man he's a big dude, heavy was hell. I'm surprised he lived. One leg was blown off above the knee, one below. Four tourniquets a leg. Poor guy. I'm just happy he's alive. Hopefully he gets the help he's looking for.

LISTEN TO THESE SOLDIERS! They are told to just ask for anything and they are so give them what they are asking for. Fairness, because that is what they thought they were signing for when they dedicated their LIVES for our COUNTRY. Who will fight for the ones who won't fight? Thank You Mark Campbell for speaking up for many of these wounded soldiers.

Sad when a soldier comes back alive with these life changes and feel as though they should have been left to die than to put their families and country through this kind of awakening. Are we really sending our family members over to other countries to deal with coming home and changing their care from the Veterans Charter.

I was a Cpl & instructor during Mark's General Military Training [GMT] in the summer of 1980. By 1985 Mark & I were both SrNCO's together, he a Sgt, myself a Warrant Officer. I last saw & spoke with Mark shortly before his transfer to the regular forces [if memory serves] in 1987/88.

He was then & still is today one of the most competent leaders I've ever had the privilege of knowing.

Very True, it is shameful to say the least! There is no price that can be compared to the service you and others have given our country, and this has to be drastically revued! The part that really is terrible is that the ones making these decisions get a pension for life far exceding anything a soldier gets, and they determine that someone who really served their country gets less than they do! SAD!!!!
