My 8th and, perhaps, the last Hassid's so far...
This video is wholeheartedly dedicated to my beloved friend who ends my days on high notes since being in his company.
Josef Hassid- Tchaikovsky -- Sourvenir d'un lieu cher (Remembrance of a Beloved Place) Op. 42, No.3 Melodie.
Gerald Moore (piano).
Rec. 6/12/1940

Josef Hassid (Dec. 28, 1923 -- 1950) was a Polish violinisit.
He was noted for his intense vibrato and temperament, causing Fritz Kreisler to say "A Heifetz violinist comes around every 100 years, a Hassid every 200."
His great legacy to music is in the form of 9 recordings, recorded for HMV, among which Achron's Hebrew Melody is notable. Two of these recordings are the same piece; later recording was made after undergoing roughly a year under Carl Flesch's teachings. Sorry, I don't have that piece.

Many thanks to people whose pictures have been used to make videos.

Tchaikovsky's sounds really sad, but I wanna see a happy ending tho. Enjoy! :)

  • Hmm... I've just posted a reply but I dont see it so I try again. You are so right, Oelte. I dont believe that Hassid was ill. Never! An asylum itself can drive any sane person to an insane one!

  • Well this is most pretty KM, an actual Swan Lake along with an ornithologist's selection and great Josef Hassid music, again. Pianist Gerald Moore was considered an elite accompaniest of the last 75 years. He wrote a book on it.

  • Thanks so much BarNuun. :)

.... Few days later, I Googled for Hassid's life. Yes, I think there is a correlation btw Hassid's life and his interpretation, in a way.

  • @eddielu620 I had no idea who Hassid was when I listened his recordings for the first time. I used to admire Heifetz so much that I let his shadow cover all other great violinists such as, Oistrakh, Kogan etc... And then I "had to" hear Hassid's Humoresque. I got thrilled listening to it. I asked the friend who made me hear it, "This is not Heifetz's who is the violinist?" "It's Hassid!" "Who is Hassid? His sounds better than Heifetz's!" "I couldn't agree with you more!" my friend replied.

  • @KyotoMelody I am unable to extricate Hassid's interpretation with his own sad story... so in the sense that his wist is conveyed by more than just his playing, but rather his story also (for us listeners) Hassid's version has an edge over Heifetz's for me. I understand this can't be a universal truth, but I confess that I am a victim of the correlation between Hassid's life and his interpretation. Heifetz's version is equally as beautiful, however, in and of itself.

  • IMO this is the best version of the Tchaikovsky melody on YouTube.

  • @CanadaPisces you're right, Heifetz is a superb violinists! I'd favorited this beautiful video in my channel for a certain time, thank you for sharing!
