Well, it's about time I did a song, ain't it? I finally caved and used Guitar Rig 4 to get around my PA problem, but hey, it did the job.
I wrote this song years ago on my 5150, right after I got it. It was one of those VERY rare moments when I pick up the guitar, and a song just flows out of me. It was written, recorded, and mixed in two days.
The original version is a bit different. I intended this song to be kind of a "victory march" at the end of a movie. There's a more relaxed feel to it than how I played it here, and there is a good reason for that. But I'm not going to say what it is just yet; it has to do with the imagery of the song and the lyrics, and for now, I'm leaving that up to you to interpret. (Feel free to tell me what you come up with!)
But for this, I wanted to make it more of a pulse pounder, the way I would do it live. So I gave it a significant tempo boost (which meant I had to rerecord all of the backing vocals) and played it as I would in a three piece band. Despite that, I did add clean chord hits, and a rhythm guitar over the solo and outro.
Speaking of the solo, I'll say it plainly, I screwed it up a little.
This is also a little more polished than the other song videos I've done up until now, mostly because of the seperate performances. Oddly enough, even though the vocal line follows the guitar pretty closely in a lot of the song, there's actually a lot of little things going on in the riff, and I had big problems trying to play it and sing it simultaneously. The melodic aspect of both the riff and the vocal melody are vital, and I didn't want to sacrifice either, so I just did 'em seperately. My frontman schtick is a little goofy in my basement with no crowd, but hey, I was havin' fun!
For the techincal details, see the update video linked to this.
