In this video, Matt Bodin of Intel IT provides a demonstration of 3 use cases using Intel® vPro™ technology. The demos show how Intel vPro technology can be used 1) to upgrade solid state drive software, 2) to remotely upgrade an operating system and 3) a remote reset of an encryption password.
If it was encrypted correctly you would never be able to set a new passphrase if it was forgotten. Proprietary encryption that allows someone even if it is only Intel or IBM or HP to reset a password is not very good encryption it gives people a false sense of security. I dislike encrypted disks, however I realize it may some times be necessary. In those cases I suggest writing out the password in a secure location and getting it put in a safety deposit box.
