@happyprincess456 I think he might have had a point. Some sketches from the third season were a lot like the first.
It's not so much that Cleese's writing was missed as that without him the others didn't have anyone to say no to their odder ideas.

I loved this episode...some said they were inferior to earlier ones where John Cleese was a Python, but the show still had some classic and very funny episodes after he departed the troupe.

well, partly because he thought the sketches were becoming unoriginal and repetitive and that he thought he didn't have anything to add to them. there were probably other reasons too, though.
