These two microphones cost around the same ($350,00) and I've got them both here today, so I decided to make some test-recordings.

I don't have a very good sound treatment for my room YET. But anyway, as youtube lacks of A/B switch mic comparisons, specially with the Oktava, I thought it was worthy doing it. Hope you enjoy!

  • Надо же) оказывается микрофоны "Октава" пользуются спросом и за бугром. Весьма рад за нашего производителя !

  • For me the Oktava wins. Now a Joly modified Oktava is on another level altogether!

  • many people here said that the MK219 offers a more detailed sound but i think that the difference is that nt-2a is more sensitive and more flat at low fq, well the MK219 may listen better for raw vocal but nt-2a sounded more better for the guitar and brought out a more detailed and natural sound.. my conclusions are that you can do some equalization and colourize the vocals or cut the lows lilbit but you cant make the opposite, that makes the nt2a more

  • @TheSerbianwizard I'm in the same boat as you really, i use the built in preamps on the saffire pro 24, but i've looking into it and the FMR RNP is a great set of pre's for the money. I've tried lower cost pre-amps like the DMP3's and they seem horribly harsh to me... i prefer the saffire ones to them.

I've always been told not to use compression in the recording chain for vocals and acoustic guitar as it limits options afterwards... makes sense i suppose.

  • @ThrowawayFolk what pre-amp would u suggest use with my rode-nt2 to get best sound out of it...and also,,what do you think of a dbx 166 xl compressor to go in the chain

  • The octava seems to a lot more clarity than the rodes which seems quite muddy. You were using the preamp on the mbox which isn't going to bring out the best in either mics, not sure this is such a great test but interesting non the less.

    Thanks for that.

  • It sounds as though you were closer to the Rhodes which would give it more low end due to the proximity effect. Were they both the same distance from your sound source? Or is the Rhode clearly that much better?

  • @novanine9 I actually agree with you on the Rode NT-2A sounding way more colored and warmer with alot of the low frequencys but i actually recorded on the Rode NT-2A mic and my vocals came out quite clear check out the song on my channel called "You Won't Be Needing Those"

  • both mics are outstanding i would use thee rode on someone who doesnt have a quite boomy voice when recording.. and oposite for MK 219... for myself when recording since i have a deep boomy voice i use the mk 219 since it filters out all that boom.. still gets the lows though. i love the Mk 219 :D

  • whats your daw ?
