From time to time it's fun to look back at some of the things that we have talked about as long as a decade ago, which are now surfacing in the news as fact. When we revealed them our viewpoint was controversial or dismissed altogether, yet after enough time passes the truth about such issues as the low sodium diet, the necessity of sodium, the sodium and potassium balance and excess salt have been revealed. We have been saying for many years that it is not so much how much salt one consumes but how well it is balanced with potassium. The standard American diet unfortunately, provides far more salt than potassium, yet reducing salt in the diet is only part of the problem. Unless we also increase potassium we will still have balance issues. Sodium is a necessary electrolyte and is provided by the consumption of salt. The sodium and potassium balance is more important than the amount of salt in our food within reason. A new study involving more than 3600 people over an 8-year period has shown that the group, who were on the lowest salt intake or the low sodium diet, had the highest rate of heart disease of all the study groups! This study supports the concept that salt, in and of itself, is not the real problem when it comes to heart disease and high blood pressure but the balance between sodium and potassium, is essential. Another increasingly common practice is the use of anti-bacterial soaps and hand sanitizers. The chemicals in these products can be absorbed into the body through the skin. Further, the hand sanitizers are especially bad since they destroy the skins natural acidic barrier provided by nature to protect the body from invasion by external bacteria. Once the skin is 'neutralized' it loses its barrier of protection. Antibacterial soaps and hand sanitizers are being marketed on the public's hysteria over 'germs'. Germs have always been with us and we cannot get away from them. If you immune system is strong it will protect you. Washing the hands with soap and water, in most cases is far better because it doesn't change the pH of the skin like the harsher hand sanitizers and antibacterial soaps. Often you see people using these hand sanitizers several times per day in an almost obsession-like fashion. The dangers of these hand sanitizers, especially when used to excess, can actually make one more susceptible to bacterial invasion as the barrier on the skin has been compromised. Lastly, we have been discussing the dangers of HRT for many years. Now more and more information is coming out about estrogen dominance and HRT abuse. Since most HRT or hormone replacement is estrogen predominant, it has contributed to the estrogen dominance that most menopausal women suffer from. Studies over the past 7 years continue to confirm the risks of HRT use, which many researchers feel has contributed to the epidemic of both ovarian and breast cancers over the last 25 years.

  • If they're good old Veggy Sanitizers such as Organics, then it would not do that.
