  • @cwilliams1976 Thanks for that.I know that broadcasting hours regulations were relaxed in 1972.We are now used to 24hr broadcasting, but in the 1970s LWT & Thames were often hour more at night than BBC.Except on saturdays when BBC 2 had it's 'Midnight Movie' !.

  • @soapbox5 LWT closed down at that time because they were only licensed to be on the air from 7pm on Fridays until closedown on Monday morning, and also because they wanted more broadcasting hours.

  • Wonderful thanks!.I would estimate this to be 1977,1978,or 1979?.

It felt odd in the 1970s to be watching around closedown, like being deviant.

LWT closing at 1am?;The BBC closed BBC-1 at 11-45pm & BBC-2 just after midnight Sunday to Thursday.

In the 1970s British television after 11pm was considered late night & really for insomniacs!.

  • Added by the uploader, mouse over it and see.

  • Aww, this takes me back to childhood - in-vision continuity plus the national anthem before close-down. There's nothing worth watching during the nights anyway!

  • cool 9 years before i was born

  • Agreed, not a patch on the earlier model...

Was that white rectangle bottom left actually transmitted on the night, or added by the uploader??

  • Can't be right. LWT are listed in the Times as having closed half an hour earlier, and the maximum temperature in London that Sunday was a much milder 12 degrees Celsius - the forecasters would never get it *that* wrong!

This might be early 1979, perhaps.

  • Barri Haynes is a bit of a fidgeter, is he not? I get the feeling he was supposed to be somewhere at 12:45.

  • Don't like that clock much.
