Low-Power Wifi for Video Streaming

Our objective is to improve upon the current technology available to implement a wireless video monitoring system for remote coastal regions. The sensor network is based on the iMote2 single board computer platform which supports Zigbee and can handle a peak data rate of 250 kbps. Unfortunately, high quality video transmission is not possible at this data rate. Hardware modifications are necessary to increase the bandwidth while conserving power. To achieve this enhancement we shall implement a SDIO interfaced WiFi system-on-a-chip based on the 802.11g protocol (which supports data rates up to 54 Mbps).
