In May 2007, 42 Entertainment began a viral marketing campaign utilizing the film's "Why So Serious?" tagline.
A transmedia experiment with over 10 million particpants in over 75 countres that played across hundreds of web pages, interactive games, mobile phones, print, email, real worl events, video and unique collectibles

I think the marketing strategies used by the dark knight were absolutely brilliant. Giving fans like myself a whole new world to enjoy is a far more effective strategy then just using simple techniques like trailers and billboards and what not. This movie has touched the hearts of millions of joker fans and I believe that is the ultimate accomplishment
