a lot of this argument is simply unbalanced. you have to take into consideration what you get out of participation as a fundamental aspect. for instance, if you do not participate, you have no chance of getting ANYTHING out of it. What i mean is that participation as an independent commodity is absolutely valuable. Teamwork, Life lessons, responsibility, character... the list goes on.

Success is what you make of it. So you have a big house and car, congratulations if thats what you want, but it doesn't make you any better, worse or happier than anyone else alone. It's only because you want those things that you are happy. For example my idea of success is being able to sustain myself independently of society, so that I can litterally do nothing and still get by if I so choose, and I would be just as happy and just as content in my existence as anyone else in all their success

It means nothing when I show up for work... we'll see about that.

As a successful Gen-X'r, I'd like to say "Sod off". Your oversimplification of very complex socio-economic issues may fly with central/southern-americans, but the rest of us know better. The challenges faced by the Y generation aren't the same stuggles we faced. In fact the odds are stacked ever greater against them; avg college tuition alone in the US has doubled, while avg adjusted for inflation wages have sank. This isn't simply a bootstrap argument, you reptilian-brained moron.

It is normal for a generation to blame problems on the one that came before. Now we can blame the one that came after as well! Congratulations Calacanis, this will be your legacy to society.

This is coming from a member of Gen Y. This man speaks the truth. I know you don't want to hear it, but it's true. I know a lot of you are probably all about this occupy wallstreet movement thinking you're doing something by being rebels, smoking weed and posting on tumblr, but you're not doing ****. It's time to step up. It's not about riches, fancy homes or fancy cars. It's about building a sustainable future for yourself and your family if you choose to have one.
