  • Bret, I'm having a ball exploring your videos. You've unearthed some fabulous music along with fascinating insights from the musicians. Thanks, and please keep up the good work!

  • Thanks for the kind comments. Stay tuned, the best is yet to come.

  • well said about jazz in the beginning of the vid, Bret. Thanks a lot for what you're doing, I'm only 19 and I live in Finland, far from the big jazz scenes of the world, but I have found jazz and people that enjoy it around here and I have to remain optimistic that the art will live on. Jazz has enriched my life greatly and I try to promote it to others as best I can. Thanks for introducing me to Lenny Bruce and for these priceless clips. :)

  • Appreciate the kind words. Stay tuned!

  • Those who care how musicians interact with their fans are the insufferable bores who come up to the bandstand and think, because they're "hip" enough to "dig" the music, that they should be able to hang with the "cats". Go home, put on a record, and hang with your accountant friends

  • Excellent post, never seen this material before - Thanx.

  • Thanks for up loading this. It's truly amazing and as a bassist/comedian and a major fan of Jazz this whole bit truly inspires me and yes I believe that stand up is a lot like Jazz.

  • It's a shame that you can't see Bill Evans back there on the piano. Thanks for providing this historic footage.

  • @DaveBassDotCom Well - I think it was other people stopping him from fermorming that caused his problem. Not drugs.

  • The truth didn't lead to Lenny's demise - self-abuse (drugs) did. The truth never leads to demise but to Freedom.

  • Ladies and gentlemen....LENNY BRUCE!!!

There'll never be another like him.

  • Lenny's so genuinely happy! Man, what a gas.

  • why can't we get rid of the rhapsody ad? it's intrusive as hell

  • During 1958ish, when I worked at Birdland, many of the Jazxz greats would go watch Lenny perform in the Village. It was sort of a custom that he would be raided by Police before his last performance. Lenny knew that too. It was followed by some of the most heart rendering Jazz performers who would take over the show.

  • zappa fan jazz fan thanx lenny was the iceing on the cake

  • Hey, you know all the folks I did. I didn't know Lenny but everyone else who knew him. You mentioned David Allyn being on the bill of some program which went by quickly. Jazz is not nurtured. And they took it out of the joints where it began and sterilized it. Now I like concert halls, but I want it to cook and let me figure out what happened musically. I don't want Wynton to explain it to me. It lost the grit with these modern players. No souuullll.
