On a tour of "hutongs," or old alleyways that served as the neighborhoods for old Beijing, I visited a "siheyuan" of a family that once held high-status during the waning days of imperial China. Now it is a very modest abode. "Aunt Li" welcomes visitors to see what life is like behind the walls of the hutongs.

  • Look for video called 北京 - Day 1 - 胡同 on vimeo.

  • They have stopped the demolition of the Hutongs and Siheyuans in Beijing, the rest is either preserved or renovated.

  • damn, it is very sad how communist china mistreated historical works of architecture like this one.
