I am a Canadian of Italian descent who speaks both languages. This is a correct English pronunciation. The speaker has simply removed the features of the Italian word that do not assimilate to the phonological system of English. His pronunciation of the "o" reflects that the "o" in the Italian word is the open rather than the closed "o". English double consonants aren't phonemic, so he has pronounced only one C. And English lacks the ñ sound. No reason to freak out about this.

@Iffy50 I just checked to be sure and there's no relation between the 2 words. "Gnocchi" properly "gnocco" derives from the latin(no not south american) word nucleus which is easly translatable because in english is still nucleus, kinda convenient XD

@RocketHandNinja Thank you for clearing that up for me! I didn't realize there was a difference in words as I only spoke Italian and didn't write it. I just assumed that since the dish "gnocchi" looks kind of like "knees" that it was named after that. Nope... I can start working on pronouncing it properly now.

DAYUM! The "O" is not like that, it's damn fucking italian, how could you teach pronounciation if you don't do that right?? It Gnocchi...you have to wait on that "o" it's not like you pronounce it in 0,00000000001 seconds...the only letter in italian that you don't say is "H" which is a freaky useless letter.

There must be more than one pronunciation for this. gnocchi literally means "knees" in Italian. I spoke Italian before English and I always pronounced the "G". G-nok-yee. Maybe it's a northern Italian thing?
