@NS2174 Not unusual at all. In many cases the locomotive has "stopped" but all sorts of dynamics continue in the consist behind you as the rest of the train does its thing..
@CMLovejoy It looks more like the rail was built over a culvert that was too small, causing floodwaters to wash away the earth and ballast; there probably was never a bridge there. See this video that illustrates what I mean: /watch?v=glDbDeZrD5E
