Cheba Hut uses Marijuana as sandwich idea
By: Megan Mattox

For more than a decade, Cheba Hut has been taking marijuana further than medicinal or recreational purposes. They've used it as the concept behind their sandwiches.
When customers walk into the restaurant, they are greeted by employees and faced with a board full of toasted sub options, all with names inspired by marijuana. All subs are "toasted," and the size options range from "nugs" at 4" to "pinners" at 8" and, finally, "blunts" which are 12" long.
Nick Andrews, an employee at the Mesa, Ariz. location, spoke about the subs and said tat the " white widow" was one of the most famous. However, the employees enjoy making their own combinations since they are all "pros."
Customers also have favorite sandwiches that they come back for. Brad Cote confirmed what Andrews had said when he mentioned the "white widow" sub, even though he is going vegetarian at the moment. He also said "No matter what, you can never go wrong with the munchies."
The idea doesn't end at the sandwiches. The whole place is decorated with marijuana paraphernalia from paintings on the wall to flags hanging around the restaurant.
Cheba Hut has been feeding the community since 1998 when the founder, Scott Jennings who was a delivery driver, opened the first store near the Arizona State University campus.
According to the restaurant's website, Jennings saw a need for more food places that made deliveries in the later hours of the night. The website also said that he "noticed that on most of his late night deliveries, his customers were...um...inhaling," so he "put two and two together."
Today, there are multiple locations in Calif., Ore., N.M., Colo., Iowa and Ariz., including the original location at 960 W. University Drive in Tempe.
