A 3D command shooting 'em up game with a dual scene system for battles in the ocean or in space. The graphics and sound effects are very exciting!
You command a sophisticated craft and by using the elevation controls you can move it up or down so it can be operated under water or in space.
The periscope-type viewer can be moved from side to side, enabling you to attack more enemies.
Preen the fire button to shoot down the enemy.
The dynamic stereo sound system creates an amazingly realistic surround effect.
Many strangely-shaped crafts, missiles and UFOs suddenly zoom in to attack you; once they are in your sights they can attack you, so shoot first and survive!
The 3-dimensional effect of fast-moving crafts and missiles, combined with the terrifying explosions seemingly right up close to you are truly bewildering.
To destroy the BARRIER guarding the enemy COMMAND SHIP, you must hit it in the very center.
After blowing up the COMMAND SHIP, you proceed to another round.
The bonus points remaining will be added to your score.
When you reach HIGH SCORE you will get another ship.
In each successive round the score increases by 100 points over the previous round.
Your score and the round are displayed at the top of the screen. Your score and the previous best three scores are displayed over the periscope.
Play ends with the loss of your last ship.
I wasted a lot of money on this game too, it was fun but hard to play - thoes missles would start coming in superfast in volleys of three, the player barely stood a chance; but I still liked it.

You snared a cockpit cabinet for 70 clams?!? Old-ass game with limited market for collectors or not, that's a fantastic deal. I haven't even seen a cockpit arcade machine since like '95 or '96.

You would not believe the trouble I had finding this game again. I kept looking all over the internet, and it was a screenshot of the ColecoVision port that steered me in the right down. Such an underrated, rare arcade game. But I did have the honor of playing it a few times in the arcade as a kid.

Subroc Turbo and Buck Rogers used variable frequency oscillators to control how fast object roms were read out of ROM as they were drawn on the screen. The lower the frequency the larger the object was drawn on the screen because it took longer to read from ROM as the scanline was drawn.

And this is from 1982! This hardware should be very, very expensive at that time

Very innovative for the time. Unheard of the history of video games. The first official 3D arcade game, but Sega evolved music in 1985 and kept on improving in graphics before any other company. In times like these, I wish Sega could make a comeback to the hardware industry.

I played Sega Subroc a 1000 times on the CBS Colecovision. This one plays smoother, faster and is more colorful of course, but I really enjoyed it on our little gameconsole :) Thanks for sharing this video. I've seen Subroc in the arcade at a funfair once, with real 3D glasses mounted in front of the monitor. The arcade cabinet looked ancient because it was way in 1988.
