A quick test on Nerf Stampede's ability to accept higher voltage.
The darts I was using were not new darts, but they were in pretty good condition, no idea if that could explain the jams.

I did not repeat these test sufficient number of times to be statistically sound. More investigation needs to be done. I've heard people with Stampede have no jamming problems at high ROF, so perhaps I just need to open it up and figure out the problem.

  • I was using the 18 dart clip. I think I've figured out the "trigger run away". I think the lever that ensures the gun finishes the firing cycle is not switching off fast enough, at the end of each cycle, the inertial or the high No-Load speed of the motor simply pushes the gun to make another cycle before the switch could disengage...

  • @FlareChoo SGNerf has recently posted a fellow modder's reports of a potential cause and fix for runaway Stampedes. It involves the linkage that operates the plunger catch. Look at the blog. (Not that the Stampede could do more than 360-400 rpm (16 or so volts) anyway, because no CS mag can feed fast enough to be reliable at those rates. SGNerf tested and confirmed this. I went with the Vulcan for HvZ due to its ability to do 600+ RPM reliably and its more favorable ammunition feed strategy.)

  • @torukmakto4 Personally I don't think that is the entire problem. When the Catch Control Spring is out of position, the Catch control will fail to return to position and the plunger will not release or be locked properly. The result is that the darts will fail to fire and merely being pushed into the barrel, giving you a stampede with its barrel full of rounds. I know cause it happened to me during a game and rendered my Stampede useless.

  • @FlareChoo The catch control spring is too weak. You have to replace it with a stronger spring. Attaching an expansion spring to the catch release slide and one of the screw posts insures that the catch release slide will always return to its normal position and the gun will cycle correctly.

  • I think if you put a stronger spring in the magazine you could get it to feed properly at higher speeds, but then you might need stiffer foam material so that the darts retain their shape, which means they might be heavier and require a bigger piston spring, which would mean more force on the internals, so upgrade it with metal internals and then you'll have the best damn Nerf gun ever.

  • I will be getting one of these soon for HvZ and it will get modded. I am going to have to do my own experimentation. What mag are you using? The drum mags are not known for reliability, nor for fast feeding. The 6 and 18 round box mags are an improvement. Since SgNerf seems to have experienced no reliability problems at 540RPM (18rd mag), I have to wonder if that weapon has something out-of-tolerance in the action or electrics. Especially since it tries to run away after releasing the trigger.

  • Practically raining darts lol
