All I will say to that is to go see her live and get as close as you can, because Yang has incredible technique. Its kind of unfair to compare anyone to Bream concerning tone because he was (and still is) so able to color his guitar's sound with seemingly endless variations. Both Yang and Bream have strong, unique artistic vision that sets them apart from others and unique vocabularies which influence their phrasing. Parkening is great player and a generous man.
Bream recorded them twice but I prefer the first recording.
I'd say the version here is played badly and that the piece is indeed hard for her if she can't play it better than this. Her tone quality is poor. Parkening also played a version of the Bagatelles and did it with superior tone and phrasing. The pieces surely take a nod to Spanish music and thus the Romantic quality is there.
@Rexicano Julian Bream was the first guy to get his hands on these pieces. I always thought he played them with a bit of a "Romantic" tinge, and his versions are the ones that are in most guitarists heads, they've become iconic. Yang XueFei's interpretation accents abstract qualities. She's got a lot of forward motion. For me its interesting to think that this is probably an intermediate level of difficulty for her. I find this performance to have quite a bit of delicacy and tenderness.
Very good performance indeed; although adjusting the strings in a performance is not what I'd like... Whatever happened to Chinese men :(. In recent years there are a few wonderful Chinese female classical guitarists showing up - Xuefei Yang being one of them. They are talented, dedicated, hard working professionals. Very inspiring..

Her dynamics at the beginning are all the same...and tempo...just rushed thru with poor phrasing...like it's a race to get to the end.
Bream played this is a musical way not in evidence here.
Utterly lacking in charm and poetry.

Obviously the next piece needed a different tuning of the guitar at 3:35.
This is excellence, clear, clean and superior control. Bravo.
