At the Supernova Conference in San Francisco, Jonathan Zittrain, a professor at Harvard Law School, talks about the dangers of closed devices, such as the iPhone, which cannot be easily modified by anyone except their vendor.

  • Brand loyalty. Some people will buy a Versace for 10 x the cost because image and branding. People buy iphones for the same reason. Sad and stupid.

  • This guy reminds me of Jerry Seinfeld!

  • propaganda......

  • Apple: we will supply you with everything you want, if we decide you want it...

    PC: It's up to you...

  • Yeah, what a great idea! Allow any software to run on the iPhone so that there are viruses and things don't run well. Apple has the "hand-in-glove" theory- they make the hand (hardware) and the glove (software) so that the glove fits the hand perfectly (versus the Windows world which makes a one-size-fits-all glove). The iPhone is just the same, which is why it runs well. I would rather lose some apps that Apple disapproves of than open up the floodgates for viruses and malware.

  • Fuck you!

They do it for a reason, protect us from assholes!

  • Maybe Apple is looking out for malicious apps...I have a Droid Global and like it, but the Apple i phones are better...The Droid key board not worth the extra weight, and the Apple os is smoother from app 2 app...Apple is the number one brand in value,on the planet...Its hard to argue with success....

  • lol why would apple want to help their rivals android commercialize their brand...its not like apple asks android or microsoft to help them advertise....so thats just business.

  • The reason why it's done, is to protect the consumers. Apple makes sure that the software you have on your phone is not stealing your personal data.

If you don't like, don't use it.

I think Apple did a good job with AppStore and i prefer to use approved apps, versus the apps that are available in Cydia.

  • apple is BEST!!!Steve Jobs rules!!!

  • you can actually get apps on an idevice without the appstore but their called webapps

if you google iphone webapps, apple has a list on their website of all that they know

    also jailbreak that shit
