Great Voice & Tango - (11) Nadezhda Obukhova !

Russian mezzo-soprano, 1886 - 1961; my Favorite, both for unique, exuberant 'mezzo', reaching naturally contralto and for the feeling that may be encountered only among those great Russian artists - musicians, singers.

This very old 'European' tango, in Poland was first published as early as 1919, from the beginning had a character of a song rather than a dance.
Engineering of this USSR-Russian recording (late 40.) is very poor and it was as much as 9 sound-trials before I finally decided to present it in that shape. I just love it.

what a voice , what a temperament ..a voice of rare beauty and expression ..the only Russian soprano of whom i loved so much the voice and wished many times to be a mezzo and not a soprano...old stories these , i know it, but ... ..i do also have old recordings with Obukhova and through her voice revives a whole lost era ...
