Blanka ball punishment (SSFIV)

This video demonstrates possible ways to punish mid-screen horizontal and EX vertical Blanka balls. Many of these punishes only apply to "unsafe" Blanka balls, so just take this as a reference video (as opposed to a "how-to" video). For some of the theory behind safe and unsafe Blanka balls, see Viscant's thread in the Blanka forums on SRK.

Not all punishes are listed, especially if the hori ball punish works on the vertical ball. If it looks like it should work, try it out in training mode.

Vertical ball punishments are demonstrated after hori ball punishments for each character, unless the hori ball punishment is similar. Even though there aren't annotations for some of the moves, you can see which ones work on hit by looking at the life bars. There are lots of moves that can punish vert balls on hit even though they can only punish hori ball on block.

As implied on the intro page, many of these punishes are hard and/or impractical for different reasons. Use Training Mode to figure out your character's best and most reliable punishes.

Also note that T.Hawk can only punish mid-screen balls if they land meaty (eg. cross-up hori-ball, or vert ball on wake up).

Any other way to punish blanka balls with Akuma besides ultra or super? Sweep isn't as practical when the spam from the end of the screen.

The only problem I had in this video is that it was hard at times to distinguish between horizontal and vertical blanka ball

The vertical ball punishes always follow the horizontal ball punishes per character (if there are any worth showing). So if you see a vertical ball, the next one is also a vertical ball etc, until the next character comes in. If you're unsure, just check Blanka's EX bar.

Ryu has no punish for Horizontal Ball other than super. The video leads you to believe otherwise, but those are actually vertical balls at the beginning of the video. If you are able to dash forward and sweep a horizontal ball after the nerf, I think that will be more than fair.

If you knew anything about the game you'd know those are hori ball punishes. Try dash-punishing a mid-screen vert ball with cr.hk. (hint: the way to punish a Vert ball with sweep is shown in the vid!)

Only stupid thing about blanka :( however if he does a LP roll he tends to go further back after hitting... Did it to a guy i was versing just before and he missed all of his slide tackles :)

If you hate playing vs blanks the answer is simple, get better.

He's one of the most easily beaten characters in the game IF you know his tricks, everything he does is insanely punishable.

There is a reason you never see blankas at tournaments.

@bONz08r0nzan It's not about friendship lol. When i see my opponent pick Blanka on the charecter select screen i lose all my interest in the game and my mood goes down. And i'm not the only one who thinks that about Blanka so it must mean something. Sadly Capcom is a lazy and greedy company and they cant be bothered to make updates and ballance charecters. They rather wait for their next SF game and put all the changes in there so that thye can milk more money from us.
