A beautiful melody underlies this joyful peek into a Sufi retreat held on Maui, Hawaii. The interfaith circle dances provide a direct experience of spiritual communion for the dancers. More info see www.mauisuficamps.com. See below for the lyrics. See www.dancesofuniversalpeace.org for dances near you.

COMPLETE CIRCLE by Amara Karuna © 2008

When every hand is held, when every heart is one
And every storys told, and all the work is done
The fires of war are cold, the last laments are sung
When the young are old, and the old are young

Chorus:
Then love shines in every face
Complete the circle round
And the song thats sung in every place
Is an endless joyful sound of
Rejoice! Rejoice! Rejoice! Rejoice!
Everything lost again is found
Rejoice! Rejoice! Rejoice! Rejoice!
The Beloved One is forever found

When every longing heart receives a sweet reply
Finds every missing part, lets all the knots untie
Every lesson is learned, every mystery is solved
When all the keys are turned, and every wall dissolved

When every debt is paid, and every hunger filled
When only love is made, and only peace is willed
And every prisoner free, and every friend is near
When every eye can see, and every ear can hear
Chorus

  • it is true that Sufism and Islam are not the same thing, especially in the West coast of the United States. Think of this as a different religion, that is inspired by the language and teachings of the Middle East, but touches people who need to be reached spiritually by different practices. What it has in common with Islam is seeking inner peace, community, service to others and remembrance of Allah. Sufism has it's roots in Islam, and we also honor all other sincere religious paths.

  • sufi? ... tasawuf... true tasawuf is the science of Islam, submitted to sharia...hmm

  • As some souls are called to submit to sharia, others are called to other practices. In this world of confusion I celebrate any being who turns toward God on any path, however long or short a time it may take them, and however different it may be from my own way. If a being is submitted to Allah, this is true tasawuf. thanks for writing, and blessings on your path.

  • Thanks Amara-- we love your dances in Kansas City:)

  • I am glad you are enjoying them! blessings to all! Amara

  • @amarakaruna NO THEY R NOT THE SAME THING..ITS ROOTS WERE ISLAM BUT THEY STRAYED FAAAR AWAY FROM THE BASIC FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES OF ISLAM.

  • Crimen Sollicitationis

  • Peace and blessings to you (Salaam) to you for pursuing a higher path and striving to reach Allah (SWT).....but this video and the accompanying website look nothing like Islam. It could be argued that is "ok" but this seems to be a case of people with very good intentions (and probably good hearts) adopting aspects of a religion that has a pretty strict all-or-nothing philosophy. I hope all of you (folk-dance-circle-people) are guided toward the straight path that is Islam.

  • I have no doubt that this camp was a liberating experience....but forgive those of us who are Muslim who are wondering what in the world this folk-music-dance-camp has to do with Islam! Most Muslims, of most sects and schools, believe that at the very least that following the example of the Prophet Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam is the bedrock of Muslim conduct. I can't see how the Prophet's Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam message, or example is being exemplified in these folk-dance-circles (?).

  • Only in America....

  • God bless all of you!!!

  • Wrong.

  • sah.

  • Submitted to God means following the path shown by His messenger. If not, then chances one effort is moving towards being astray (instead of submission). God Most Knowing.
