Just have a few questions/points and I thought this would be one place for them. I'm not totally trying to be rude; just pointing something out and expressing my own curiosity. First, Matt. says Jesus was born during the reign of Herod; Luke says it was when Cyrenius/Quirinius was gov. of Syria and ordered the census. Herod died in 4 BC and the census was in 6 and 7 AD. How is this possible?
Second, Matt. tells of the family fleeing to Egypt to escape Herod and the return was fulfillment of prophecy. Luke has no mention of this. If the Egypt story was so important, why wouldn't Luke include it? Third, Luke only mentions shepherds visiting Jesus, when Matt. has the wise men. There are more issues with the story, but these are some that came to mind.

@MsLilithJS - bear in mind that these books were written 40 years or so after the resurrection and were done by the best memories that each writer must have had. Because something was not mentioned does not suggest that either author had a different story. The Wisemen are mentioned coming but also many months after Jesus was born and not on the same night.
While it's difficult to harmonize the gospels, my only question is:
Why did the church remove the Gospel of Thomas? There's a poser...

I'm also LDS and I found new information concerning the TRUE birthday of Jesus proven by Scripture and ancient astrology. Joseph and Mary journeyed to Bethlehem for the “census” in late Summer, 3BC, (Luke 2:1) Jesus was born in a stable and according to the Jewish calendar, on September 11, 3BC. Wise men found the Babe at home in Jerusalem, not in Bethlehem. (Matthew 2:1&11) His CONCEPTION was in December not his birth. Search for "Birth of Christ Recalculted".

@msexie - it's very possible.
Some have speculated it would be in April, when the Shepherds could finally abide at night with their flocks. Certainly not in December.

@THELDSLIFE I've read the Bible many times, and Revelation 5:5 reads, "Weep not: behold, the LION of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David,. . ." Jesus himself says, "I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star." Even though he doesn't refer to himself as the"Lion" it all fits. In those days they lived and traveled by reading the stars. The Magi were not kings but priests and astrologers. It is fitting that the "Lion" of Juda would be born under the sign of LEO.

@msexie - that's a possible interpretation and it sounds plausible.
