I bought this tool today, but before looking at reviews. I love love love tools in my scrapbooking & cardmaking, especially if they are multi-use. I have the "Silent Setter" for my eyelets, but thought this would be better since it does "gromlets" as well as snaps & eyelets of 2 sizes.... BUT I got home quite curious on just how to use it.
[PS I'm still not sure how to use this when putting on SNAPS... Know of a vid or site explaining how? Private Message me the link!! THANKS in advance]

I watched vids here on YT & got to know the tool a bit better. Still, though, I hadn't really tried it. I only got a "layout of the tool". I was doing some product review reading on a site that sold this tool, and came across complaint after complaint on how when they were setting the 1/8" eyelets, they were cracking, splitting, *smooshing*, and the backs were just sharp metal sticking everywhere.

Only one person on that site said that, from somewhere, they'd learned that though they say to use the C & 3 setting on your blocks, that using the C & 4 setting would actually prevent the backs from becoming sharp pieces of metal.
As you can see in the pictures provided in the video, I did 2 examples using each setting, and I already saw a difference.
I agreed right off the bat - use the C & 4 settings you'll be better off... The "slope" is much shallower and so it won't splay the back so much that it's ready to cut you open with shards of metal sticking everywhere. I think maybe if you pull back on your strength when pressing down to set it, too, the front will have even less of a chance of getting damaged as you see the C & 3 setting does.... the blue one on top cracked off a piece if you can see it! Wow - so yeah...

Thought I'd throw a vid up to help others not make the costly mistake of getting this, ruining tons of eyelets, and taking the tool back. Hopefully if we play with this tool, get to know it, and make it work FOR us and not AGAINST us, we could keep the tool instead of returning it, pitching it, or giving it away.
:)

  • I've never known how to set eyelets - the spiked-wheel type never come with instructions, I suppose they assume that "everyone knows". I got the Big Bite because I do't have the strength to use the plier-type punch, but the instructions were in French, which ws very handy - not! When I googled for "how to set eyelets" your vid was top of the list, so well done, and thanks very much!

  • @franl155 it was on the top!? wow... awesome! Hehe sorry. Yeah I get better cleaner results out of my "Silent Setter". I don't know if they make it anymore, but my BB-II must be messed up because it fudges up the eyelet & gets stuck every time. This is a good solve, but mine was screwed by the time I found that fix... so I think mine's broken in a way. But I still like to use it to punch holes deeper into the paper or an item. =)

  • I was having this very problem and messing up projects left and right. I tried your tip and it works great. Thanks:)

  • @susieham you're welcome..

I still have to sorta pry the piece out of the C-a-D.... ugh. I think that "bit" side is messed up unfortunately, but I'm glad it's working for everyone else LOL =)

  • Thank you for your video, I have just managed to buy one today at a discounted price. I previously bought one on QVC and managed to damage the plastic part of the grommet setter and couldn't get it to work satisfactorily, so luckily used my 30 day return. Now I have this spanking new one, I will be more careful and watch some more videos first to avoid damaging this one *L*

  • @SQUIBBITUS hehe. yeah gromlets & even eyelets get stuck on mine all the time... it's more than annoying. I'm going back to using my Silent Setter for eyelets nowadays... :sighhhhhh: but Thanks lol.... glad it helped

  • I really liked this video....I don't use any other brand of eyelets but WRMK and started selling them in my blog store....I love these...when I first started using them, they got damaged (i lost my little manual pamphlet thingy:( ) anyhow, I found that I had to change the cube settings...and it's what you recommended, so thank you and thanks for the video!! Jules:)

  • Thanks so much for posting this video! I just got one for my birthday (mainly for creating holes in chipboard for binding) and i could not figure out how to set an eyelet! TFS!

  • @southsioux For some reason even at Hobby Lobby I have a problem finding WRMemoryKeepers brand of snaps & eyelets, it's always *not* their brands I find... and the CropADile does NOT like other brands LOL. I keep my eyes open when at Tuesday Morning & Big Lots... never see 'em

  • Not sure what area you live in, but I found of this company's products at my local "marshall's" store. Highly discounted, the snaps and eyelets were less than a dollar a panel. I have had no problem using a cheap eyelet tool. I found they are selling products on HSN. I found even cheaper at discount stores...
