This is completely wrong. Fundamentalism means that you read religious text litterely, instead of interpretating them. It means that you follow the laws and rules of a religion no matter what it is. For example, if you are an islamistic fundamentalist, and you read the part of "Jihad" (holy war) you think that it is your right, to fight everyone and everything, that is damaging islam., even by murder and violence.

I think fundamentalism, literalism, and extremism are words that tend to get blended together and misused to describe each other.
And you are absolutely right, the true fundamental tenets of every religion are love and unity.
