Both these Detroit Diesel(formerly GM diesel division) are awesome. The 671 is my favorite of the two. The 671 engine sounds almost like a V8 diesel in a way, but not quite. These engines might be able to be updated to increase their efficiency, such as using less restrictive air filters, intake systems, and exhaust systems.

Yes as it probably has a pgp style woodward governor and it waits for oil pressure to get RPM. Funny thing is how many you know can idle with 5 yes 5 psi of oil. For those that say no come to miami and I will show you and no the gauge is not broken or electrical. You cant kill these engines they only mark there spot and run forever...

I miss these engines.

GM diesel was the original name for Detroit Diesel. GM spun off their engine business and renamed it to Detroit Diesel. Their 2 stroke engines had roots in the huge 2 cycle EMD designs.

Honestly I think the Detroit sounds a lot better than the G.M.. The G.M sounds like a pissy little 4-stroke lawnmower engine while the Detroit sounds like " big business"

John Deeres would definitely be quieter, cleaner, and more fuel-efficient, but not quite as musical as the Detroits!
