the first ones the main generator, a 471 GM Detroit Diesel. Loud as hell. The one starting up is the Auxiliary, a 671 in rough shape, but operational. Not as noisy, but tends to spew oil from the manafold as its never under any load when running.

  • how fast was it turning on the tach?

  • Both these Detroit Diesel(formerly GM diesel division) are awesome. The 671 is my favorite of the two. The 671 engine sounds almost like a V8 diesel in a way, but not quite. These engines might be able to be updated to increase their efficiency, such as using less restrictive air filters, intake systems, and exhaust systems.

  • Yes as it probably has a pgp style woodward governor and it waits for oil pressure to get RPM. Funny thing is how many you know can idle with 5 yes 5 psi of oil. For those that say no come to miami and I will show you and no the gauge is not broken or electrical. You cant kill these engines they only mark there spot and run forever...

  • I miss these engines.

  • wat een tyfus herrie!

beter deutzies inzetten!(die van 500 toeren dan he!)

    (LOL)

  • GM diesel was the original name for Detroit Diesel. GM spun off their engine business and renamed it to Detroit Diesel. Their 2 stroke engines had roots in the huge 2 cycle EMD designs.

  • Honestly I think the Detroit sounds a lot better than the G.M.. The G.M sounds like a pissy little 4-stroke lawnmower engine while the Detroit sounds like " big business"

  • John Deeres would definitely be quieter, cleaner, and more fuel-efficient, but not quite as musical as the Detroits!

  • Oh thats a SWEEET Sound ;)
