Wake-up call

It's dusk at the hyaena den and a mom decides it's time to wake up the pups underground. Not being able to get into the den she calls from the entrance. One of her pups emerges from another entrance. Another mom arrives and grooms the more dominant mom. The 2nd cub arrives, but with a trophy. Mom pesters it when all the cub wants to do is chew on its bone and all mom wants to do is groom her little one.

I think hyena cubs are cutest when their spots are coming in and they're all fluffy. :) I like these quiet parts of hyena life. They show whats best in these creatures—generosity, love for the young, playfulness, cooperation. Humans could stand to do a little better in some of these departments.
