As unsettling as it is for homeowners, squatting remains legal in England - as long as a break-in wasn't involved. It's in fact, considered a civil, not a criminal matter.

Few squatting in this house wanted their faces shown. Those who did, were keen to show they weren't the criminals the British media have so far made them out to be.

Homeless charities say the rise in squatting and homelessness in general is an indictment on the failure of successive governments to build affordable homes for people.

English property laws mean that owners of houses taken over by squatters must go to a county court to obtain an order to have them evicted. This home had been empty for up to six months, and was in the process of being renovated. The owner has now taken legal action against the squatters.

The squatters have been ordered to appear in court on the 19th January and they may be evicted from the property within 24 hours of that hearing.

  • The greater crime is homelessness and empty housing.

  • I understand why they're doing it.

  • @abzNlaurz i guess it's just a bit of a grey area, i just don't think it's fair to call them scum

  • @GhostGardens Not every job wants experience, being 18 I know how hard it is to get a job. But if I looked enough i'd be able to find one. These people are obviously not looking for a job and instead trespassing into someone elses home. How would you feel if you bought a home and just because you weren't there for a few months some homeless people went into it? You're still paying the bills for it and they are using it without you knowing?? they should just find a job, it's not that damn hard.

  • @abzNlaurz they're not scum. some people dont have qualifications, or the experience to get a job, and the whole 'need a job for expeirence and experience to get a job' thing is a horrible situation many young people like these guys find themselves in. They also don't trash the place, proper squatters, who are not 'criminals' make sure the house isn't vandalized. Don't be so closed minded, these people don't have a choice.

  • @freedomseaker1 She pays £200million tax a year, I think she has every right to.

  • Ha! The guy at the end carries a box in and throws the door shut. XD

  • @dave997

Not if you shoot him first.

  • nobody had been living there so that is better than homelessness but when people live there and they trash the place is sick

  • @dave997 Big difference lol
