The Internet also provides options for getting news and making phone calls, which can result in reduced cell phone plans. I've found the biggest money saver for us is paying our bills weekly by direct debit, just a little bit every week, that way when our bills arrive we're already in credit. In 6 months I've gotten all of our utilities at least 6 months worth in credit. We wish we had more in our savings (don't we all?) but we know that if something were to happen, we have *at least* six months of mortgage and utilities waiting to be used. You just don't notice the money gone each week if it's in small amounts.
