Go to a good encyclopedia and look up "Formal Logic" and a subheading of that "Fallacy". Study the typical fallacies, ad hominem, ad baccculum, ad circularum--- and reanalyze jw literature through this lens. They have almost all fallacy, no content aside from manipulative goading. Fallacy is also covered under COgnitive Behavior Therapy and its list of typical distorted thinking ideas, there are about 20. REBT also covers this
One key is to begin decoding the power messages in all communication. Transactional Analysis breaks the three power positions into Critical Parent, Emancipated Adult, and Lost Child. CP: "I'm ok, you're not". EA: "I'm ok, you're ok." LC: "I'm not ok, you're ok". The person stuck in Lost Child goes looking for and bonds to a CP relationship or organization. If you learn to see these power statements, JW literature is a sad mix of insanity both CP and LC with almost no real CONTENT, no real DATA
Anxiety is seen by "Pros" as the problem, it is in fact a symptom.
Layer below it is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, social anxiety is the "ritual of choice", just like an alcoholic has OCD and the bottle is his/her ritual. The layer below the OCD is a mix of Anxiety and Depression, a very rapid cycle. Below that is rooted in emotional development, belongingness and love. @eternityandforever You know what is wrong with cults like yours? You all think you are in a unique religion. Never would you dare looking around and realize that tons of other cults have the exact same structure and beliefs. You got most of your members around 1975 because you were putting emphasis on the date. After nothing happened you changed your story and tried to shift the blame. Almost none of your articles deal with psychology, manipulation, etc. Ever wondered why..?
@finalfansix The world glamorizes boy-girl friendships. BUT all too often sexual flings start. It's for the safety of all that God's word teaches us to be chaste, and very careful about who we associate with. It's from our all-wise and loving Creator, Jehovah God. It's all in the bible to protect us from things we will regret later...
@annibe11e IT is no bad thing to be a follower of the Christ as Jehovah's Witnesses are. We preach everything he commands us to, WHY are you making us sound so bad, anyway? Jesus wants people to repent and learn about God's Kingdom=Matthew 4:17. He tells us this is our inheritance=Matthew 5:5. He tells us to pray for the kingdom=Matthew 6:9,10,33. He tells his disciples to go house to house and reach everyone for sure=Matthew chapter 10, 24:14, 28:19,20. Quit knocking us, we follow the Christ!
Well, first off, are you shy in general? If you are, you have to work on that first. I think also, you're probably setting too high of an expectation for yourself when you say you're "trying to make friends, make relationships, close friendships.." This makes the feat look like it's too high to reach, therefore creates anxiety. I would just recommend being yourself, treat others like you want to be treated, and just talk. Don't have a goal of: I'm going to make them my friend. Just be friendly.
