I can see why some bands might not agree to having actors play their song on film. If the song was really good, then the band that originally wrote it might never get any glory for their accomplishment other than royalties. Because the song would be known as the song that band on Scott Pilgrim played, and not Metric.

For an independent artist music to be played in a movie and using actors as the front singers can be very touchy for the actual artist. People like to relate certain images to movies and so the actual artist can get lost in the mix as to some might believe the actor is the one really singing the tune.

Movies play a big role in the music world. I think its nice that artists get asked to write songs to fit a certain movie.

I think it would be really cool for the actors to consult the band playing music for the movie that they are going to be in. Its also a pretty good way to make the movie more realistic.

Maybe the money helps with smoothing the news about actors performing on the camera instead of the actual band...
