Matthew Johns Apologises on A Current Affairs

MATTHEW Johns says he wants to put the group sex scandal that has cost him his rugby league TV and coaching roles behind him.

Johns emerged from his northern Sydney home this morning after last night apoligising on air for his role he in a group sex session with a 19-year-old woman seven years ago in New Zealand.

Dressed in track pants and a t-shirt, Johns left his Collaroy home about 10.30am (AEST) with friend and former Newcastle NRL team-mate Brian Carney by his side.

Carney flew from England to be by his mate's side following the explosive allegations, aired on ABC's Four Corners program on Monday.

He wasnt sacked..

it was a mutual decision.. both agreed it'd be for the best..

He was cleared of sexual assault, which is why he wasnt charged for it..

Womens groups wanted to set and example of johns and pressured the networks into standing him down..

If channel 9 went against the womens groups it'd be political suicide.. (gives the impression that channel 9 and nrl condones this sort of behaviour)

Which is why he is now not employed by channel 9 or NRL

Actually - although Paul Vautin tried to suggest that it was a mutual decision on the Footy Show, Phil Gould minutes later suggested that it was not the case, and that it took them "30 seconds to decide what needed to be done" - this does not suggest that Johns was part of the decision. I would think that Paul Vautin was trying to put a brave face on the situation and trying to suggest that Johns had a part in him leaving the network. He wasn't.

what i suggested in my comment was, they had talks before the sacking with johns included in the talks..

They all thought it would be best johns stood down.. including johns..

What i then said, was channel 9 was commited to standing him down regardless if johns agreed or not..

I certainly hope the lady will find the healing she needs. I also hope Matthew Johns will find the forgiveness he needs, since he's the only one who's bothered to show any remorse at all. As for the other players, I hope they lose their peace of mind AND A LOT OF SLEEP until they have no choice but to step forward and own up to their stupidity as well! And then--and ONLY AFTER THEN, may they find forgiveness and peace again as well.

Hey Tnakigirls, I can only speak for myself, but I would do no such thing. America has its share of sleazy people as well as good, kind decent people and I would not expect any other country in this world to be any different.
