@Vermillion2176 Think of it this way too. EVH did that same thing you are talking about with holdworth's playing. After listening to holdsworth i can't enjoy eddies playing as much anymore.
All the complainers are listening to straight out rock music. No Frank does not play like Eddie Van Halen or any of the rock greats. No he does not play jazz like Joe Pass - but somewhere with a huge jazz and rock background stands Frank Gambale all alone and absolutely amazing.
You could take any 4 seconds of his solo out and use it for an entire rock song theme.
I am a guitarist. A pro and a session player. I have to play all styles. When you are called do a session you never really know what is going to be expected of you when you get there. You may be doing a Hendrix thing Slash or Brent Mason thing etc... As a guitarist I have to be a chameleon. Unless they want my thing which is cool too. But if I ever got on a session and they said "hey give me a Gambale thing". I'd tell them to call Frank. Why?? Because I cannot play half as good as him. he is #1
Gambale is unique. Seems nowadays its not hip to sound original or have your own sound. Gambale has it, Holdsworth has it, Eric Johnson, Bill Frisell, John Scofield, Ade belew, Pat metheny, David torn all can be identified within a couple of notes. it is a sign of greatness when all the clones try and sound like him. ..... or like a lot of the new gen of rock guitarists just sound plain homogenous.
los envidiosos q no pueden tocar asi diran q no tiene feeling solo porque ellos no lo pueden hacer asi de rapido y no tienen esa tecnica ¡¡¡ pudranse envidiosos lentos¡¡¡
Sometimes people making the No Feeling comments are expecting every guitarist to jump off the top of the Marshall Stack and smack their guitar into the drum set while setting their hair on fire. Frank doesn't do that - heck he ain't go no hair. He just stands there and blows everyone else s doors off.
If I could play a guitar as well as that, maybe just maybe I could get a job with Taylor Swift...

Frank is a virtuoso at soloing. So fluid and random.

I don't think that's it.
People are used to "air time", where the guitarist stops to sustain a note, before continuing.
Funny thing is, Gambale does actually do this on many many songs. He's just very technical as well.
