Yep. His music was the perfect combination of Country & R&B. Most Rockabilly (even that of Perkins') was more R & B based. THen, you had the established country stars jumping on the Rockabilly bandwagon (Webb Pierce for Example, Jimmy Swan, Marty Robbins, and semi-famous Ferlin Husky-at that point) putting out Country songs with a rockabilly edge. I'm not knocking the country stars, but many of their songs sounded more like earlier country boogie, than the slashing R & B.
Warren Smith was BRILLIANT and deserves to be remembered today for his musical contributions every bit as much as his better known musical peers like Lewis, Perkins and even Cash, IMHO.
It irks me to no end that not one member of the RRHOF agrees with me on this.
