There are mysterious acronyms geniuses Zemeckis and Gale intentionally implanted in the movie, both actors had been choosen in anticipation, actually the characters were tailored exactly for them:

for M.I.C.H.A.E.L they created "Marty Is Coming Home After Eerie Lighting"

for L.E.A. they developed "Lorraine Earth Angel"

Coincidence not possible? Not convinced yet ? The name of Doc means

E.M.E.T.T. = Emeritus Master Engineer of Time Travel
